ABSTRACT

Group I amioplasia or arthrogryposis is the most common in the orthopeadic practice. The afection may involve only the lower limbs, the four limbs or, in fewer cases only the upper limbs.
The purpose of this paper is to diferentiate only upper limb affections and evaluate their treatment and evolution.
We reviewed two hundred cases from December 1982 to December 1998 with only eleven cases with upper limb afection; the average age was 13.6 years old with six female, and five male patients. We found that the upper limb contracture frequency was 5.5% with a slightly higher incidence in female patient 1.2: 1.
We classify the treatment in non surgical with the use of upper limb therapy and aplication of orthosis in children and surgical, on which we performed a first web release with dorsal flap for the adducted thumb and release of camptodactily, both precedures were the most common to obtain an improvement of daily activity functions.
