ABSTRACT
From january 1983 to december 1993, 24 patients with Streeter band syndrome where studied. Nineteen cases had a circunferential release, amputation was needed in the three cases and in two cases, no treatment was done. The number of bands per patient was 2.1 in average. In eigth cases the localization was in the uper limb, 13 cases in lower limbs and in three cases, both localization. The average age at moment of release was 2.6 years having two surgcal proceduress in three cases and one surgical procedure in 16 cases. It was necesary to reoperate two of the three patients who have had two surgical procedures and two patients of the 16 with one procedure. The release of circunferential amniotic bands in one surgical stage is a safe procedure, the complications are less and an earlier recuperation of the patient is obtained.
