Transferencia de cubital anterior a radiales en pacientes espásticos

ABSTRACT

Surgical procedures done in the upper extremity of spastic patients remain controvertial. Tendon transference of the Extensor Carpal Ulnaris (ECU) to Extensor Radialis Brevis or Longus (ERB-ERL) was first described by Green and Banks in 1962, with good results.
We performed 56 tendon transfers of the ECU to the ERB or ERL through the interosseus membrane from January 1982 to December 1991 at the Shriners Hospital for Children, Mexico City Unit.
The mean age was 10.4 years. 33 patients were males and 23 females, 46 patients had spastic hemiplegia (30 right and 16 left), 4 were triplegic and 6 had quadriplegia. The follow-up was minimum 3.3 years and maximum 11.8 years. The results were evaluated according to the function and cosmetic appearance, over 60% of the patients had a good result, 42.3% had a better function of the hand in two groups, the tendon transfer worked better on the Extensor Radialis Longus.
