ABSTRACT
We report a retrospective study of patients with diagnosis of Septic Arthritis of the hip (SAH). Long term results of 36 patients with 45 hips affected in a period of 11 years (1980-1991) with an average follow-up of 5 years. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the late effects of Septic Arthritis of the Hip in children, as well as the most adequate treatment to each case according to the radiologic condition of the coxofemoral joint.
We based our study in the Hunka's classification to identify the degree of deformity of the hip and decide the best therapeutic option according to our experience.
The criteria for evaluation of results were: the anatomic and radiologic deformity, pain, range of motion, type of gait and leg length discrepancy.
Based on the above data we achieved the following results: GOOD: 22 hips, FAIR: 13 hips, and POOR: 10 hips.
Therapeutic criteria can be standarized based on the radiologic condition of the hip.
