ABSTRACT
Objective: Describing the experience in iliofemoral infrainguinal venous thrombectomy at the “Dr. Valentin Gomez Farias” ISSSTE Regional Hospital and update in the procedure of literature.
Methods and patients: Six cases have been included (from March 3 to June 10 of 2007, with not more than seven days evolution) for the analysis of this experience in iliofemoral venous thrombosis, demonstrated by upward of inferior members flebography. Also, a revision of the current literature is made about the controversies and current tendencies in the medical and/or surgical treatment of the iliofemoral venous thrombosis.
Results: Six patients were operated of infrainguinal venous thrombectomy (previous authorization) with the following results: so far of court 0% of mortality during and after surgery. 0% of pulmonary embolism after surgery (for clinic, radiology and electrocardiography) and one patient had currently thrombosis.
Conclusions: Because it is a limited number patients study, it is not possible to get a conclusion. However our results are encouraging, being conscient that they even exist a few controversies in the procedure. At the end of the 60’s years, it was discredited in studies where were detected several mistakes, because of high mortality and pulmonary embolism during and after surgery. Actually the procedure has been recaptured because of the great transcendency in post thrombotic and EP sequels joined to the mortality, which it has not diminished significantly by the conventional antithrombotic treatment.
