ABSTRACT
One case of female suckling baby of 1 year and 8 months old is reported, coming from a Yucatan community,
who presented Pellagra associated to a basic diet of corn. The clinical square was characterized by scaly and cracked
dry skin with bleeding widespread fissures, stomatitis, cheilosis, atrophy of lingual papilla’s, at neck level presents
the Casal sign, besides irritability insomnia and antecedent of intermittent frequent diarrheas.
The diagnosis of Pellagra were documented by a clinical way and was corroborated with a total improvement
of the sintomatology with a specific handling base on a rich diet in Thiamin, Riboflavin, Nicotinic Acid and Niacin.
The importance of the case is based in its low frequency and the injuries at skin level. This show us the necessity to be alert on this disease typical of the poverty that is still being presenting in regions of high social
inequality like ours.
