Conjuntivitis por VPH coexistiendo con papilomas múltiples palpebrales

ABSTRACT

A case of acute and chronic conjunctivitis with multiple papillomas and flat warts due to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is presented. The patient was initially treated without response with tobramicin and chloranfenicol. Later on the patient developed severe atopic blepharitis, characterized by chemosis, scaled and fissured blepharitis and intense conjunctiva congestion. A conjunctival exfoliative cytology was performed. The diagnosis of viral conjunctivitis presumably by HPV was established. Treatment with fluometholone, local ketotiphen, ophthalmic acyclovir ointment and cimethidine at doses of 800 mg daily were recommended. The flat warts were treated with a combination of salicylic acid, lactic acid and 5-fluor-uracyle. The most relevant aspects of the case and the relationship with squamos cell carcinoma are discussed.
