ABSTRACT
Fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI) is a rare and benign fibrous subcutaneous proliferation that usually appears in the first few years of life. It usually presents as a single tumor in the axillary or inguinal regions, the arm or the shoulder. Because its high grade of cellularity and the presence of immature cells, it is sometimes misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor. The clinical presentation, the radiological picture and the histopathology, confirm the diagnosis. The treatment of choice is its complete excision and the recurrence rate is approximately 15%. We report 5 cases of FHI diagnosed in two third-level hospitals during a 35-year period. We emphasize on the clinical presentation, radiological studies and histopathology for its diagnosis.
