ABSTRACT
Objetive: To identify the cortical damage in an strabological syndrome with congenital esotropia, variability and uncoordinated movement (SEVA).
Material and method: This is a prospective, transversal, descriptive and observational investigation in patients with congenital esotropia, variability, limited abduction, latent and lateral nystagmus, dissociated vertical deviation, amblyopia, suppression, and asymmetric movements. All patients were studied with strabological exploration, digital electroencephalography, brain map, oculography, and infrared light recording for slow movements.
Results: We obtained 11 patients, most of them females. In all patients we could see the asymmetric movements and their relation with electrical alterations with a failure in the fronto-temporal cortex with loss of time of the stimulus between both hemispheres. This kind of alterations is not seen in other strabismus.
Conclusions: We demonstrate the evident asymmetric cortical impulse between hemispheres in the strabological syndrome happening during the also asymmetric movement, described by Gallegos and Moguel as congenital esotropia with variability and uncoordinated manifestations, but now related to anomalies in the brain cortex (Fisher test= ‹0.001).
