ABSTRACT
Ocular and conjunctival hemangiosarcoma show a low incidence. No case reports were found in the national literature to the best of our knowledge. The most frequent sites are the breast, after radiations, liver, gastrointestinal tract, heart and large vessels, as well as skin including face and scalp.
The case of a 76 year-old male with a scalp hemangiosarcoma, diagnosed three months before and treated with surgery and chemotherapy, is presented. He was seen at the ophthalmologic clinic with a six millimetres, well defined, painless, reddish nodule in the conjunctiva of the left lower lid, which was removed because of the previous diagnosis of neoplasia. The gross pathological study revealed a well defined, hemorrhagic spongy mass. Microscopically, small vessels of different diameter were seen, which were occupied with neoplastic epithelioid and spindle cells, consistent with hemangiosarcoma. After confirming that the primary was in the liver, the patient died eight months later, although without showing recurrence of the lid lesion.
