ABSTRACT
Purpose: To evaluate macular response recovery after retinal detachment surgery by multifocal electroretinography (MFERG).Methods: Patients with primary reghmatogenous retinal detachment with macular involvement treated with Scleral Buckling were recruited for study. MF-ERG (3.1 RETI-scan) was done on first, third and sixth month. We used a 61 hexagons resolution, divided in five concentric rings. Results were compared with the fellow eye.
Results: 14 patients were included for study. The electrophisiological response of the affected eye at sixth month postoperatory for the first ring was 49.61% and 41.08% for the second ring compared with the fellow eye. The rest of the rings showed a mean value of 46.46% compared with the fellow eye.
Conclusion: There is a reduction of the b-wave amplitude in the patients with reattached retina compared with the fellow eye. This can implicate that retinal function is restored in the early period after surgery and stabilize without mayor improvement
