ABSTRACT
Hepatitis is an infectious disease of the liver by different viruses that causes necrosis and inflammation; dentist’s has a high risk to acquire it because the causal agent is in saliva and blood. Objective: To asses the level of knowledge for hepatitis infected patient’s handling in senior students at ISSSTEP clinics. Material and method: A descriptive, observational, transversal study. The sample included 29 senior dental students of the ISSSTEP clinic in December 2006. A 20 multiple question quiz was given, it evaluated; definition of the liver and hepatitis. Hepatitis types, transmission, signs and symptoms, virus behavior, diagnosis, treatment, immunizations, drug administration and sterilization. Results: The degree of knowledge of the hepatitis virus was average at 60.85%, deficiency in the knowledge of transmission, liver function, hepatitis D, hepatitis types. Outstanding was the knowledge for hepatitis A and sterilization procedures. 100% of the surveyed considers to have been vaccinated for hepatitis B virus. Conclusion: The degree of knowledge for hepatitis is insufficient in dental senior students at ISSSTEP.REFERENCES
