ABSTRACT
Introduction: The transfusion of erythrocytes can represent a risk for the patient that receives it since can acquire an infection or some alteration to your health because the storage erythrocyte presents an active metabolism. The metabolism can produce harmful substances for the human being.
Objective: Our objective was to determine in globular package the concentration of nitric oxide and meta-hemoglobin along the time of stored.
Material and methods: This is an observational and experimental study. Globular packages were selected of the blood bank in our institution. The concentration of nitric oxide and metahemoglobin was determined along 30 days. Results was analyzed with Student «t» test using GraphPad Prism V-4 program.
Results: Our results show that an increase in nitric oxide and meta-hemoglobin is developed along the time of storage. In the first five days of stored, nitric oxide increased up to 96.28% and meta-hemoglobin increased up to 159.09%. These latter increment in both substances are maintains along the time and is maximum at 30 days of stored.
Conclusions: The increment in the concentration of nitric oxide and meta-hemoglobin in the globular packages along the time can be a factor to produced adverse reactions in the patient that receives a transfusion of blood.
