Estadio de la retinopatía diabética en el momento del diagnóstico

ABSTRACT
Purpose: Is to determine the stages of diabetic retinopathy during the first visit to the department of retina at the FHNSL.
Material and methods: This is a retrospective, observational, descriptive, analytical study. Charts of patients with diagnosis of diabetes seen in the retina department between January 2004 and September 2005 were studied.
Results: 1364 charts were included 673 (47%) were female and 727 (53%) were male. 73 patients (5%) had DM - and 1291 (95%) had DM-2. Mean ages were 53.27 (±10.00) for DM-1 and 58.77 (±11.5) for DM-2. 68.47% had advanced diabetic retinopathy there is a tight correlation between diabetic retinopathy and time of illness p‹0.05. 43.18% were associated with arterial systemic hypertension. No changes were seen in the diabetic retinopathy stages compared with those who had arterial systemic hypertension p›0.05.
Conclusion: Patients with diabetic retinopathy visit the department of retina in advanced stages.
