Angiogénesis retiniana inducida por oxígeno en ratón: un modelo económico

ABSTRACT
Purpose: To reproduce a cheap model of oxygen-induced retinopathy in mouse in which the retinal neovascularization could be reproducible and quantifiable to further study the pathogenesis and interventional therapy of proliferative retinopathies
Methods: Neonatal mice C57BL/6:Hsd from UNAM-Harlan Centre were exposed at 7 days postnatal to 75% oxygen during
5 days. At day 12 postnatal they were returned to normoxic conditions and were killed 8 days later. After enucleation, the eyes were histologically analyzed and the endothelial cells in the retina were counted.
Results: In the mice exposed to hyperoxia the average endothelial cell nuclei were 175.3 ± 15.9 SD, compared to the nonexposed with an average of 58.2 ± 7.5. We used the Mann-Whitney non-parametric statistical test with a p=0.002.
Conclusions: We achieved to reproduce an oxygen-induced retinopathy model using less expensive resources.
