ABSTRACT
Introduction: The new alternative in the current surface refractive surgery named Epilasik is not exempt from complications, the complications that we found in the procedure were incomplete cut, amputation of the flap, and fracture of the epithelium during the manipulation.
Material and methods: 140 eyes of 70 patients in which surface refractive surgery was performed with the epilasik Norwood Centurion were included.
Results: Of 140 eyes, 45.71% (64) of the procedures developed without contingencies, 21.42% (30) presented amputation of the flap, 10.71% (15) incomplete cut and 22.14 % (31) epithelial fracture. Of 70 patients 38.57% (27) did not present complication in the creation of the flap in both eyes. In 100% of the cases we apply laser treatment.
Conclusions: The technology named Epilasik realized with the machine Centurion Norwood is safe because we applied it in 100 % of the laser treatments; it was effective in just 45.71 % (64) of the eyes and a epitelial flap could be created without complications.
