Eficacia y seguridad del lente de Artisan para la corrección de miopía alta

ABSTRACT
Purpose: To determine the efficacy and safety of Artisan lens for the correction of patients with high myopia.
Methods: This is a prospective, longitudinal and descriptive study, in which an Artisan Lens was implanted in patients with high myopia and astigmatism › -3.00 D. Determination of dioptric power before surgery with Van der Heijde table was done. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure, endothelial cell count, average of 3 images, spherical equivalent and anterior chamber depth, were studied preoperative and postoperatively at 6 and 12 months. Complications during the follow-up period were reported. Analysis of variance between groups was done.
Results: A total of 44 cases were included. Twenty- one cases were bilateral. Average age was 29 years old. The mean anterior chamber depth was 3.13 mm preoperatively and 3.0 mm postoperatively. All patients presented an increase of 6 or more lines of UCVA and 1 line of BCVA (p ‹ 0.01). No significant statistical difference in intraocular pressure was observed (p › 0.05). Preoperative endothelial cell density was 2,640 in average, and 2,227 at 12 months postoperative (p ‹ 0.05 respectively). The spherical equivalent was reduced from -15.0 D to -1.5 D at year follow-up.
Conclusions: Artisan lens is an efficient method to correct high myopia; the loss of endothelial cell density was statistically significant after one year of follow-up.
