Agudeza visual a los tres meses de extracción de cristalino transparente y colocación de lente inraocular en pacientes con miopía alta

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze results of clear lens extraction with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in patients with high myopia.
Methods: Retrospective study, in which files of patients with high myopia in whom phacoemulsification with lens implantation was performed were analyzed. Complete ophthalmologic examination was realized in all cases. Two groups were formed. A) Best corrected visual acuity of 20/40 and B) BCVA of 20/50 to 20/100.
Results: Thirty- two eyes of sixteen patients were studied. Preoperative BCVA was compared with postoperative visual acuity at third month. In 25 eyes (78.12%) the same or better postoperative visual acuity than preoperative BCVA was obtained. This difference was more apparent in the B group.
Conclusions: The clear lens extraction by phacoemulsification and IOL implantation could be a safe and efficacious option to correct high myopia.
