ABSTRACT
Obesity is a public health issue that affects children in a very important way. We know that obese children may become obese adults if there isn’t a proper control of their weight before adolescence and therefore the risk of metabolic complications may be severe. Today children at very young ages are overweight and obese; hence having to deal with complications such as insulin resistance, diabetes, dislipidemia, hypertension and orthopedic problems that we must detect and treat as early as possible. The objective of this study was to detect the prevalence of obesity in a specific population group in Mexico City. It was found that out of 500 patients the prevalence was of 14%, being more frequent in boys (57.2%) than in girls (42.8%).
