ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the demographic, clinical and laboratory tests (routine and special) in the pregnant women of a rural community in Estado de México.
Methods: From July 2006 to February 2007 we studied a group of pregnant women who realized prenatal checkups until obstetric resolution. Each patient had at least three medical consultations, with the measurement of clinical and laboratory variables according to the Mexican official Normation and to the TOLUCA protocol for prenatal care. The results were expressed in mean, standard error and percentage.
Results: During this period the population of the rural community was 4,746. The total of women was 2,391 (50.3%), which 860 (18.1%) were in reproductive age and 74 were pregnant during July 2006 to February 2007, and 40 (0.8%) accepted to participate in our study.
Conclusions: The prenatal control is a basic strategy that allows the identification of risk factors and physiological alterations in the pregnant women. The results expressed in this article demonstrate the favorable impact when no risk variables are involved.
