ABSTRACT
Objective: To identify the prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in sacrum fractured patients.
Method: A prospective, transversal study was realized at the Hospital de Traumatología de la UMAE «Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narváez» Distrito Federal, IMSS, from January 1
st to December 31
st 2003. We had 29 male inpatients diagnosed with sacral fracture, older than 18 years, no history of ED and without neurological or urogenital pathology; all of them signed the informed consent form. The fractures were classificated as Denis and registrated the concomitant diseases. Then we applied the IIEF-5 (International Index of Erectile Function) for diagnosis of ED and classified according to Rosen (3-12 months after fracture). The values of p ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant.
Results: From 95 pelvic fractured patients (29 with sacrum fracture), 17 fulfill the selection criteria (9 fractures type I, 8 type II). Type of fracture and concomitant diseases had values of p › 0.05. We had three cases of ED, all in type II fractures. Two of them were classificated as mild ED and one as severe.
Conclusion: The prevalence of ED in man with sacrum fracture is 17.6%, regardless of concomitant diseases and age.
