Queratectomía fototerapéutica con excimer láser (QFT) en el tratamiento del síndrome erosivo corneal recurrente (SECR)

ABSTRACT

Purpose. To evaluate the results of phototherapeutic keratectomy with laser excimer (PTK) in the treatment of recurrent corneal erosion syndrome (RCES).
Patients and methods. 15 patients (17 eyes) with RCES: 6 men and 9 women; age average: 47 years (range, 27-80 years). With a mean follow-up of 22.1 months, were operated by manual epithelial debridement and direct application of excimer laser (Technolas Keracor 217-Z), using a 3, 5 µm thickness and optical zone = 5-8 mm in automatic mode. Finalizing the treatment with a therapeutic contact lens for 6 weeks post-op.
Results. The result was successful in 15 (88.2%) eyes with good adhesion and epithelial cohesion, with no erosive recurrences, whereas only 2 (11.2%) eyes showed recurrent erosion at 2 and 7 months post-op. No post-operative complications like: loss of lines of vision, corneal opacity, secondary hyperopia and/or irregular astigmatism were seen.
Conclusions. PTK is an effective and safe surgical procedure for the management of RCES.
