ABSTRACT
Purpose. To compare safety and efficacy of 0.1% sodium diclofenac ophthalmic solution and 0.05% ketorolac tromethamine ophthalmic solution for the treatment of mild to moderated allergic conjunctivitis in pediatric population.
Material and methods. A prospective, descriptive, double blind and longitudinal clinical study was realized. We included 116 eyes from 58 patients, between 5 and 17 years of age, with diagnosis of mild to moderated allergic conjunctivitis. Each one applied in a randomized way 0.1% sodium diclofenac or 0.05% ketorolac tromethamine ophthalmic solutions four times a day during 60 days. Safety, tolerance and efficacy clinical parameters were evaluated during days 2, 7, 14, 30 and 60.
Results. Patients who received 0.1% sodium diclofenac ophthalmic solution showed an improvement of allergic conjunctivitis clinical manifestations similar to those on 0.05% ketorolac tromethamine ophthalmic solution.
Conclusions. 0.1% sodium diclofenac ophthalmic solution application shown efficacy as well as tolerance, similar to 0.05% ketorolac tromethamine ophthalmic solution for allergic conjunctivitis symptoms management.
