ABSTRACT
Objective: To report a case of a 36 year-old woman presenting a nonparasitic liver cyst drained by laparoscopic surgery in a successful way.
Design: A case report.
Seat: Regional Hospital Zone No. 35 of the Social Security Mexican Institute at Cosamaloapan, Veracruz, Mexico.
Case description: It is about a 36 year-old woman who presented increased volume at the at the right hipocondrius level and progressive abdominal pain accompanied with gastric-bilious vomiting. She was practiced the following laboratory examinations: complete CBC, PT, PTT, Platelets, BHC, and liver and gallbladder ultrasound, obtaining the following results: laboratory studies did not demonstrate any kind of alteration, the ultrasound showed an oval image at the right hepatic lobe level, presenting heterogeneous features with very well-defined walls. Then, an exploration by least-invasion was performed, finding a tumor at the right hepatic lobe of around 8-cm diameter with adherence to the parietal peritoneum, but easily accessible through blunt dissection. The tumor was dried obtaining, through puncture, a drainage amount of a dark liquid of about 200 cc. Afterwards, the cyst was unroofed. Then, the samples were sent to laboratory and pathology services, where both negative hydatid serology and cytology were reported for malignant cells. The biopsy showed cystic walls and no malignity. The patient presented a good postoperative evolution and she was discharged on the second day after the surgery.
Conclusion: A good result was obtained using laparoscopic surgery (endoscopy) for liver cyst drainage.
