ABSTRACT
Phototherapy has been used to treat a large variety of inflammatory and chronic dermatoses, such as vitiligo, psoriasis, parapsoriasis, cutaneous T-cell lymphomas and chronic eczemas, with good therapeutic results.
Objective: Retrospective review of the use of narrow-band UVB phototherapy in a population attending in a dermatology center of Mexico. Our purpose was to determine the characteristic of the population, responses, cumulative doses, total number of treatments and side effects.
Methods: Phototherapy cases notes for all patients with dermatoses at treatment with UV-B phototherapy between 2002 and 2006.
Results: In total, 31 patients had been treated (median age 42 years), the conditions treated most frequently with vitiligo, mycosis fungoide. The adverse event was xerosis.
Conclusion: Narrow-band UV-B phototherapy, is effective for the treatment of several dermatoses, however concerns remain regarding long-term side-effects.
