ABSTRACT
One group of 5 male rabbits was fed aflatoxin B1 (AB1) 100 ppb; a second group was fed fumonisine B1 (FB1) 1 ppm of contaminated feed and a control group was fed uncontaminated feed during 19 days. At the end of this period, rabbits bone marrow, peripheral blood cytomorphology and serum proteins (albumine and globulins) were analysed. Results of the above parameters analyses indicated that both mycotoxins induced polycitemia, leukemoid and eosinophilic inflammatory reactions in penpheral blood. With the cytomorphologic bone marrow analysis in the group receiving AB1, a mieloid depletion plus an erythroide hiperplasia were observed. Group fed FBsub>1 presented mieloid hyperplasia and erythroide depletion, indicating increase of granulopoiesis associated to massive tissue destruction and chronic inflammatory type reactions. This is the first time that cytomorphologic changes in rabbits, bone marrow are reported due to fumonisine B1 intake.
