ABSTRACT
Tumors originating in the reproductive tracts of female dogs are not very common and have usually been associated with secondary reproductive problems. In this study a review of 2062 biopsies was done to determine the frequency of reproductive tract tumors of female dogs submitted to the Pathology Department of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico between 1988 to 1993. One hundred seventeen (5.6%) of these biopsies belonged to the reproductive tract. Their location was as follows: Vagina 48 (41.02%), vulva 40 (34.18%), ovary 18 (15.38%) and uterus 11 (9.4%). In the ovary the most common tumors were the granullosa cell one with 8 cases (44.4%); in the uterus the adenoma with 5 cases (45.5%) and in both vagina and vulva, the most frequent one was the transmissible venereal tumor with 31 (64.6%) and 22 cases, respectively. The tumor frequency was higher in animals more than 5 years old. This data agrees with the literature.
