Primary pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx. Immunohistochemical analysis of a case in an adult

ABSTRACT

Rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx is a rare malignant tumor. Histological variants include embryonal, alveolar and pleomorphic. The pleomorphic variant affecting the larynx has only been described in 16 patients. The diagnosis is made by the immunohistochemical expression of desmin, actin, MyoD1 and myogenin. We present the case of a 35 year-old male with a primary pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx.
