Initial experience of an Orthopedic Service in a rural hospital of San Luis Potosí

ABSTRACT
Orthopedic (Ort), is a surgical on health care that not is common in Rural Hospital (RH). Only in countries with Australia with largest number of case (10%) around patients on trauma that to need Ort. We describe our experience on RH in San Luis Potosi.
Method: In retrospective, observational, descriptive, study, all patients with Ort surgery on trauma were admitted to the Emergency Service in one RH since June from October 2007, considering in patients age, diagnostic, surgical procedure, and surgical problems.
Results: On 6,255 patients that arrive at the RH, 1,740 (27.8%) was from the Ort. To be operated was 158 with 23 years old and 36% was children. Not present mortality and complication patients.
Conclusions: The Ort service in a RH in our country was a great benefit to attendance the trauma that is on more at 10% with other countries about Australia.
