Sternal metastases as first presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma. A case report

ABSTRACT

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the more frequent primary malignant tumor of the liver and sternal metastases are exceptional and rare if they appear as the initial manifestation of the disease without evidence of liver tumor. We report a case of a 68-year-old man with an unusual metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma which presented as a sternal mass that developed during the prior 4 months, with progressive painless growth, without any other symptoms, that was initially diagnosed as chondrosarcoma. The medical treatment in these cases is even controversial by the few cases reported in the literature, and the outcome at short term is poor.
