Multiple organ dysfunction in obstetrics

ABSTRACT
Objective. To describe organ dysfunctions related with the mortality of obstetric patients.
Design. Retrospective study.
Setting. An ICU of a gynecology & obstetric hospital.
Patients and methods. Eight obstetric patients (28.7 ± 6.9 years) with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), who died in the ICU.
Interventions. None.
Measurements and main results. The following failures were detected: neurological (n = 8), renal (n = 6) hepatic (n = 6), hematologic (n = 5), cardiovascular (n = 1), respiratory, ARDS (n = 1).
Conclusion. MODS is a serious complication in the obstetric patient and is related with the rate of mortality.
