ABSTRACT
Background: The pathogenesis of chronic tension-headache an migraine remains unclear, and role of muscle tension is specially controversial. Botulinum toxin type A, a potent inhibitor of muscle tone, has been used to treat chronic tension-type headache and migraine. Objective: To inform the clinical response to treatment of chronic tension-type headache and migraine with botulinum toxin type A parallels changes in resting muscle activity with or not recorded through serial electromyography (EMG). Methods: We review mainly aspects about chronic tension-type headache and migraine to pericranial injection of botulinum toxin A. The revision include pathogenesis, neurotransmitters, updated treatment preventive and acute pain headache. Finally doses and places of injection. Conclusion: These review support the hypothesis that peripheral mechanisms such as increased muscle tone playin pathogenesis, beside, a minor role in the pathophysiology of chronic tension-type headache and migraine, and permit to drive at physician to have a correct decision for a novel treatment.REFERENCES
