ABSTRACT

A study of the diet employed on a Spanish horse-breeding farm was made. Thirteen necropsies and blood samples from 18 horses were done and analyzed. Handling and exercise practice were also evaluated. An excess of carbohydrates in the diet may gradually give rise to fat degeneration in the liver, and this is reflected not only in farm costs, but also in the health and quality of the animals.
