ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to know the morbidity and mortality of the patients who have undergone late-onset tromboembolectomy in our hospital.
Methods: From January 2001 to June 2005, 90 patients were put under vascular exploration and tromboembolectomy 10 hours after the start of the symptoms. The patients’morbidity and mortality was evaluated, as well as their outliving 30 days after.
Results: Out of the 90 patients treated, 25 (27.7%) had complete resolution; 20 other patients presented metabolic complication or retrombosis; 36 underwent amputations, of which seven were smaller and 29 majors ones, as well as 9 deaths; there was a 90% outliving after 30 days.
Conclusion: The rate of mortality in our series was smaller according to the reported international level; nevertheless, the rate of amputation was greater. The timely taking of acute limb ischemia patients to us would be the rule, as well as the immediate treatment, which can even prevent any loss of the extremity and the own life.
