ABSTRACT
This is a transversal, retrospective and descriptive study in which 7090 autopsy protocols were reviewed in a 10 year period ( 1993-2002 ). The aim of this study was to know the frequency of duodenal diverticula (DD) in autopsy studies in the Hospital General de México and to compare it with the frequency reported in other series. Six cases of DD were found, which have a frequency of 0.08%. Medium age was 67.6 years. Three cases were male and three female. 83% were found in the second portion of the duodenum. 66 % of the DD were symptomatic and had history of cholecistectomy; most of the symptoms were related to extrahepatic bile duct obstruction. Histologicaly all cases were acquired diverticula. Half of the DD had more diverticula in the intestinal tract.
