ABSTRACT
The acknowledgement of embryological development and anatomy of the cranial-vertebral joint is integrated to the information contributed by basic anatomical references, including bone points, lines and angles of reference, and they are applied to the actual methods of imaging diagnosis, such as conventional radiology, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, for lesions demonstration in this region, especially congenital malformations, rheumatoid arthritis complications, inflammatory conditions with and without infectious process, traumatic lesions, benign and malignant neoplasias, vascular pathology, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and DISH.
The correlation of the information obtained with the variety of imaging methods and the clinical expression of these lesions can help to define diagnostic possibilities with a high certainty level.
