ABSTRACT
Rhabdomyosarcomas are the most common malignant soft tissue neoplasms in childhood, but account only for just a small percentage of adults sarcomas. The most common sites are the head and neck region, followed by the genitourinary tract and limbs, but may arise almost anywhere in the body, including sites where striated muscle is not normally found such as skin or bone. Primary superficial (cutaneous) rhabdomyosarcoma is a very rare presentation, with only few cases reported in the literature. Histologically, rhabdomyosarcomas fall into three main groups, the diagnosis is important because of the difference in clinical behavior. We present a case of a superficial (cutaneous) solid alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the hand in a 18-year old woman. We comment the importance of the immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma and its differential diagnosis with the so called “small round blue cell tumors”.REFERENCES
