ABSTRACT
Dupuytren’s contracture is a fibromatosis of fascia and palmar ligaments of the hand characterized by nodules and progressive contractures of the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints of the hand. In some cases it could affect soles of the feet or the penis. Most patients seek medical care when the disease has progressed with palpable cords and nodules, changes in the skin and progressive joint contractures. Usually it is a bilateral disease and one hand is more affected than the other. There is no relationship with the dominant hand. 70% of the patients have the pinky finger affected; in decreasing order of frequency are the ring, middle, thumb and index fingers. We present a retrospective serie of 57 patients, 48 male and 9 female surgically treated with Dupuytren’s disease, all of them had caucasian relatives, 11 had diabetes mellitus, 2 alcoholism and 2 epilepsy. The pinky and annular were the most frecuently affected fingers. Four patients had Peyronie´s disease and 6 Lederhose´s associated. Satisfactory results were obtained in 95% of the cases. Complication rate was 22% and recidivism was 5%.
