ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to find out the relationship of personality traits to recent life events in patients with atopic dermatitis. The objective of the study was to enhance the treatment of these patients by taking more factors into consideration. The MMPI-2 adult Spanish version scored using Mexican Norms and both a Questionnaire of Biographic Information and the Adult Life-Events form were administered to the patients. The sample of outpatients was taken from the Dermatological Center “Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua”. The results show a significant statistical relationship between the characteristics of personality traits and life events, this may indicate that atopic dermatitis in this group of patients was the result of the interaction between the personality traits and the external situations in which they were recently involved.
The above permits us to detect those emotional factors associated with the illness; thus taking emotional components into account may lead to a multidisciplinary intervention, which will favor the patients.
