ABSTRACT
Introduction: One of the most innovating methods for the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease (HD) is stapled rectopexy with Longo´s technique. Since its first report, it has been center of controversy. We present a group of patients treated with this technique with a follow-up of six years and a patient´s satisfaction questionnaire.
Patients and methods: We reviewed the medical records of 40 patients treated at the «Unidad de Coloproctología MOCEL» from 2001 to date. Complications and postoperative outcome were recorded. At the same time, these patients were contacted to answer a satisfaction questionnaire with the used technique.
Results: Early and late complications as well as the recurrence rate were similar to the reports from the international literature. The satisfaction index was 94.8%.
Conclusions: Stapled Rectopexy is an effective and safe method for the treatment of third degree HD, where it reaches its best result. It is a sensible method to a learning curve.
