ABSTRACT
Catatonia described by Kahlbaum in 1869 has evolved in its definition and classification, determining by itself conformation of a syndrome. This way, in spite of the classifications present followers of the original description, with the semiologic elements, one has come giving greater relevance to his aetiology, since this last one allows a diagnosis and suitable treatment of this organization. Today they have settled down the frequent causes of catatonia, nevertheless, its diagnosis differential is difficult, requiring of an exhaustive evaluation with support of clinical and paraclinical methods. In this paper, sets out a general boarding of the catatonic syndrome, designing an algorithm diagnosis that is used for the treatment in the emergency services.
