ABSTRACT
Fifty-one patients with ankle fracture-dislocation were treated through closed reduction and external fixator. Twenty two male cases (43%) and 29 female (57%) were included, being the right extremity more affected (28 cases, 55%) than the left one (25 cases, 45%). Higher incidence was for type B fracture with 32 cases (63%), type C with 14 cases (27%) and type A with five cases (10%). According to the number of components the bimalleolar was the most frequent with 23 cases (45%), unimalleolar with 22 cases (43%) and trimalleolar with six cases (12%). Patients’ age is between 23 and 70 years (average 40 years) and the surgery time ranged from 25 to 70 minutes with an average of 53 minutes. The results were excellent at short and mid term, finding in this procedure an alternative to the treatment of the ankle fracture dislocation since it stabilizes and keeps the length of the structure, allowing an early movement and weight-bearing.REFERENCES
