ABSTRACT
Objective. To evaluate the unicompartimental prosthesis of the knee.
Material and methods. A retrospective series of 22 patients (24 knees) out of 25 operated on in the 1990-1999 span by St. Georg partial prosthesis of the knee because of angular deformity and unicompartimental arthrosis is reported. Three became lost from follow-up.
Results. Post-operative functional evaluation according to the Knee Society (KS) scale was between 85 and 100 points in all our cases; 75% were above 90 points. Pain was occasionally present in 12 cases (54%) when going on neither up or downstairs. Flexion was from 100 to 110 degrees. No walking aid was needed in 66% of patients. No revision surgery was required.
Conclusion. Accepted KS criteria for patients suitable for either tibial osteotomy or partial prosthesis of the knee must be addressed. Last one is for less heavy and elder individuals as well as for those who have a more severe unilateral arthrosis and reduced physical activity.
