Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infects between 170 and 350 million people worldwide and is currently the leading indication for liver transplantation in Europe and the United States.
HCV persists indefinitely in most infected patients, leading to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The overall prevalence of anti HCV in Europe and the United States is less than 2%.
