ABSTRACT

In this review, knowledge of advancements in anal fistula are exposed. Includes historic aspects, incidence, etiology and pathogenesis, symptoms, physical examination and endoscopy, auxiliary diagnosis methods, classification and therapeutic alternatives, such as fistulectomy, fistulotomy, fistulectomy with sphincter repair, endorectal advancement flap, sedal, cutting seton, drainage seton, fibrin glue and fistula plug.
