ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe and compare the histopatological features of the breast carcinoma in a Third Level Hospital compared with the world literature data.
Material and methods: It was done a search on Medica Sur Pathologic Anatomy Database in the period between the year 1999 and 2003. It was done a square chi probe and a proportion difference probe with Microsoft Excel.
Results: It was done in this period 1,043 procedures. 37.48% of the population had fibroquistic condition, 18.88% a malignant epithelial neoplasm and 16.87% a mixed neoplasm. About the malignant epithelial neoplasm the 84% is infiltrant, 70.39% by ductal histologic type and 14.53% lobulillar. The rest are carcinoma
in situ, ductal with 3.91%, lobular with 3.91% and the rest by other types of carcinoma.
Conclusions: There is a difference between the histologic types of carcinoma in Medica Sur and the world literature data. The Mexican population had differences between the histologic type of breast cancer; thus, the elaboration of new studies about the epidemiology of breast cancer in Mexico is necessary.
