ABSTRACT
A 3 day preventive anti-microbial programs was started in a series of 71 operated knees for total knee replacement because of degenerative illness. The minimum monitoring was 12 months and the maximum was 44. We demonstrated an effectiveness of 98.2% (with a p of 0.05) in prevention of infection. There were two cases of infection. Although, one was successfully solved, the other required of arthrodesis, as the final control of infection. This kind of prevention has the advantage of decreasing the costs of medical care, since our country there are lengthy programs for prevention including longer hospitalization periods. We propose a comparative study for shorter preventive times.
