Surgical treatment for anterior cruciate ligament injuries by modified Andrews technique with extra-articular tenodesis by fascia lata

ABSTRACT
This is an extra-articular reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament function by the ilio-tibial tract tenodesis to the lateral femoral condyle in a projection that resembles the anatomical design of the original ligament. A series of 15 patients aged from 17 to 36 years who had anterior cruciate ligament instability were treated in a first step by arthroscopy in order to repair possible meniscal tears. Afterwards in the same operating time, the extra-articular tenodesis was performed. Exercise program was started after 24 hours and crutches were used for 10 days. All patients had satisfactory results.
