Treatment for chronic injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament by interferential screw

ABSTRACT

A review of 300 of patients with ACL injury was carried out, from 1990 to 1995, treated by middle third bone-patelar tendon-bone homograft and interference screw by arthroscopical technique. The evaluation was performed in the Lysholm II scale, placing the results as good or excellent. The average surgical time was of 1 hour 30 minutes. The patients began gait at the third postoperative day and with continuous pasive motion of 120° in 15 days. One patient underwent infection, one had deep venous thrombosis and 25 had patelar tendinitis. The succesful outcome from the ACL reconstruction depends on an adecuate donor site and preparation of the graft, the fixation and tension of it, and a precise tunneling technique.
