ABSTRACT
A series of 42 adult patients, 39 years in average, who had unstable thoracolumbar fractures is reported. Patients were treated by USS posterior instrumentation and followed-up for a minimum of one year. More frequently affected vertebrae were L-1 69%, T-12 14.3%, L-2 14.3 and T-11 2.4%. Preoperative vertebral colapse was 36% in average; immediate postoperative it decreased to 13.5% and at final review it remained in 22.5%. It is concluded that in cases of severe vertebral colapsing a rather anterior spine fusion system should be advised in order to prevent relapsing of the colapsed vertebral body.
